Tim Craig reports in the Washington Post that the Virginia Professional
Firefighters Association (VPFF) will endorse Terry McAuliffe tomorrow. The
momentum that both Senator Creigh Deeds and Brian Moran have demonstrated
to this point may be ebbing while McAuliffe is just getting his effort in
full gear. Moran has countered by announcing the support of the local
firefighters in Alexandria, but that is not likely to dampen the impact of
the anticipated VPFF action.
The environment, political and economic, has changed from that during the
long period of informal and formal campaigning by the two well liked and
more familiar Virginia Democratic figures. Jobs, McAuliffe?s loudest
drumbeat, has been thrust into primacy in this campaign and his private
sector credentials clearly distinguish him from his Republican opponent.
The additional grassroots support and organization of the VPFF may provide
the inertia necessary to draw away in the primary contest. |
